Bangali Bento!

Poring through cook books has been an old hobby of mine. Especially when eating the daily dal-bhat affair. Over the years, the 'hard copy' books have been replaced by virtual cook books! Of the large number of sites I frequent to drool over the pictures and recipes, Bento blogs top the list. And what do you know? Here I am with my 'bangali bento'. Very basic. But what fun. And no wonder I nearly missed the morning bus to work!

Just another tea stall

It was the usual roadside cha stall, tiny plastic cups, rickety bench, cheerful biddy complete with a woolen scarf, on this decidedly warm winter evening.

Just beyond Ajanta cinema, towards the Taratolla flyover, just half way my daily commute home from work, I change here. Wrapped as it was in bits and pieces of tarps, the entry being an illegal gap in the fence bordering that bit of the Diamond Harbour Road, I never once saw it before.

But never once in 4 years? Really? Both of us - me and the scarfed biddy were surprised.

Ballygunje Phari at dusk

Its amazing what coexists side by side ... Standing at the incredibly busy Ballygunje Phari, waiting for more than 5 minutes for traffic to slow down or stop so that I can cross over to the other side ....

All I had to do was look upwards to see the row of palm trees and be quite forgiven if I though I was not in kolkata ... but else where...
